Getting your kids to poop in the bathroom was probably not an easy task. Now, they may have an even worse issue: they can’t poop at all. This may be because they’re constipated.

In this video, we will be talking about constipation, its causes, its solutions — and just what it is!

It’s never a good sign when your child starts having stomach pain. The first thought of any parent is “What did he eat too much of?” But the problem may not be just a bellyache.

Causes Of Constipation

There are many causes of constipation. The number one cause among children is diet is not drinking enough water.

Not eating enough vegetables, consuming unhealthy, processed foods and eating too many sugary treats. These are all common causes of constipation.

Nutritional Needs

A constipated child is a sign that your kid’s nutritional needs are not being met. Either he’s not having enough fiber or she’s consuming one too many sweets; your child’s diet is not only part of the problem, it’s part of the solution. So start with the fibers.

Fiber

Fiber can’t be digested by the body. As fiber moves through you, it grabs on to other substances and helps carry these things out. Some causes of constipation in children is that they are lacking fiber in their diets.

There are many foods that are rich in fiber including, almonds, chia seeds, brown rice and flax seeds.

There are two different types of fiber. There’s soluble fiber and insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber can be found in apples and blueberries and helps decrease cholesterol. Insoluble fiber can be found in skins of fruits and seeds and is good for solving bowel related health problems.

Immediate Solutions

Now, let’s get down to solving this problem!

Prune Juice is a good source of fiber that will immediately start working at softening poop. Also try considering making a high fiber smoothie for your kids, packed with fruits and veggies. This is not only an easy way to get them to have their veggies, but also a tasty way.

Miralax – though this can be concerning and is overused; it’s best to focus on more natural ways of solving the problem. It’s also not a good idea to keep kids on Miralax long-term. You may want to speak with your doctor before giving your child any type of laxative or stimulant.

Long-Term Solutions

After you’ve cleared up the situation it’s time to start thinking long term. Paying attention to your child’s nutritional needs is the first step to prevention.

  • Read labels
  • Stay away from heavily processed foods, fast foods and foods high in sugar
  • Adopt healthier choices, like foods high in fiber
  • Get to cooking healthy recipes. Remember, as a parent, you are the first step to the solution!

Don’t Give Up

Don’t give up on creating a healthy lifestyle for your kids. Your child may be a picky eater, but that’s why it’s so important that you establish a plan to help create a healthy lifestyle for the whole family.
