The Secrets Truth About Fruit Juice
The problem is that drinking juice is not the same as eating fruit. It just isn’t. It’s missing a large portion of what makes fruit fruit.
What is it missing? It’s missing Fiber.
When manufacturers make juice they discard the healthiest parts of the fruit. They get rid of the fiber and they leave the juice, which is mostly sugar. The average cup of apple juice has about 24 grams of sugar in it. That’s nearly the daily recommended a
mount of sugar for an adult! You don’t want to give this to your kids.
Missing Fiber, Lots of Sugar, Equals Lots of Trouble
Why is fiber so important? Fiber slows the absorption of sugar in the body. It prevents blood sugar from spiking (1).
When blood sugar spikes it overworks the liver and pancreas, which could lead to diabetes, obesity and other chronic health issues.
Insulin spikes help the body process all this sugar. Having a lot of insulin can cause the body to store fat. If you or your child are ingesting sugar throughout the day, your insulin levels can spike and can cause you or your child to gain weight.

Fiber’s benefit is that it actually fills you up (1).
Juice and Taste
Since juice is so sweet, when you offer your child juice his taste buds are being overly stimulated. His taste buds are quickly learning to start at this level of sweetness. What this means is that when things aren’t sweet, your child will start to reject the foods and flavors of healthier options such as broccoli. Who wants broccoli if they can have something sweeter? This can lead to more intense picky eating.
Each day a child further develops his taste preferences that will last his entire life. Don’t let juice get in the way of healthier eating.

How To Transition Your Kids Off Juice
- Instead of drinking juice, have your child eat a large variety of fruits like apples, oranges, bananas and grapes.
- If your child is addicted to juice, start diluting the juice with water.
- Make your own juice at home.
- As an adult, you are the role model. Don’t drink juice.
This is why, when it comes to juice, I keep my twins away from it. You should try and do the same, as best you can. Juice isn’t evil, it isn’t destructive in moderation, but you should understand that there are better alternatives than a juice pack.
